Yoga Teacher, Marathon Runner, Writer and Founder of Wake Up To Health.
Hi, I’m Rosanna Gordon of Out of Depression. I set up my business in early 2012 with the vision of inspiring and helping people to get out of depression, or the low moods which they experience from time to time in their lives. I use yoga, combined with a positive approach to help people to return to their natural, happy state of living.
My Training and Experience
I am a qualified Yoga Teacher, having trained with the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) in London 2010-2012. I completed the BWY Foundation Course in Berkshire the previous year 2009-2010, which acted as a great basis to my knowledge and understanding. In 2009′s The Yoga Show, London Olympia, I took part in the Yoga Aid Challenge, completing 108 Sun Salutations in two hours, with all donations going towards The Special Yoga Centre charity in North London.
I am not a doctor nor a counselor. However, alongside my in-depth yoga training, I have over a decade of personal experience dealing with, and finding strategies for the debilitating bouts of depression. Through my own experience and research, in talking with a great number of people who share the tendency towards low moods, I have gained a strong insight and good understanding into what depression is, and how it can be helped, prevented and managed. I have the know-how as far as what yoga can do to contribute to somebody’s life and help lift their mood, and I have so much empathy and compassion – and it is from this place, that I reach out to help others too.
My Journey:
Wake Up To Health
In March 2009, I set up Wake Up To Health, with a vision of inspiring and sharing my love for health, yoga and positive living with others. In recognising the impact of a healthy lifestyle on myself, I wanted others to reap the benefits too.
From then, I’ve never looked back in spreading my love for yoga. I’ve set up general group classes, offered one-to-one sessions for various needs and shared my knowledge and interest with a number of people. And over time, I’ve narrowed it down to what particular area I really want to focus on and feel passionate about, and see a need for in the world. That’s where the idea for Out of Depression comes from.
One of my hobbies
Always keen for a challenge, I decided I’d become a runner in 2010. My casual five to ten minute runs through parks were replaced with a more strenuous training programme. Inspired by a friend’s suggestion, I set my sights high on running the Amsterdam Marathon, which took place October 17th. Check out a video clip here of me and my bud at various k points along the way.
Races I’ve completed
Amsterdam Marathon (October 2010), Milton Park Run 5k, Cambridge (October 2010), Robin Hood Half-Marathon, Nottingham (September 2010), Bayer-Newbury 10k (May 2010), White Horse Harriers Half-Marathon, Oxfordshire (April 2010). Next organised race: Run to the Beat Half-Marathon, October 2012
My background
Since age 15, I’ve developed my interest in health and well-being, nutrition, sports and exercise. In particular, enjoying an on-going swimming, running and tennis practice. In 2007, I qualified as an LTA Level 1 Tennis Coach Assistant, which I’ve taught at various Summer Camps.
I am a qualified Primary School Teacher, having completed a Primary with French Specialism PGCE Course at University of Reading in 2010. I currently teach on a supply basis once or twice a week.
I graduated from University of Leeds in 2008, having completed a four year degree in French and Philosophy. As part of the course, I was fortunate to spend an amazing year living in Paris, teaching English to French students.
With the future in sight, I intend to continue teaching yoga and spreading a positive message to help people feel good in both the UK and all over the world.
